Why is late so acceptable?

Posted in Uncategorized on September 22, 2006 by jccfundamentals

This post has little to do with Computer Science, but is very relevant to students.

Today is the day when seniors are to be turning in wills and memories for the yearbook.  All day, I’ve watched Seniors, our most mature students, come to my room, asking for a second, or in some cases third sheet to fill out; asking if they could please turn them in on Monday; etc.  Why did they wait until the day they were due to write wills and memories that are suppose to be so important to them?  Where has your education failed you that you think another day is no big deal, that deadlines somehow do not apply to you, or that your excuse for being late is so good that you are somehow entitled to more time, than 140 of your peers?

My answer to more time has been NO.  Not because I’m mean, but because I too have a deadline to meet.  And it depends in a large part on you getting your job done on time.  It cost the yearbook money if we are late, meaning we would have to charge more for the book, which then has an affect upon the entire student body.

Being late has its consequences, so why don’t our students know what they are, and value being on time?

Being Appropriate on an Educational Blog

Posted in Uncategorized on September 15, 2006 by jccfundamentals

Please remember that we have begun this blog as a tool to be helpful.  Comments that are negatively directed towards other class mates will be immediately removed from the blog.

Also, please pay attention to your grammar and punctuation.  Capitalize I when referring to yourself, capitalize the start of sentences, and reserve slang like, yeah, u, lol, etc, for myspace and texting.

Please remember, you are posting on the WORLD wide web.  This is an area that can easily be accessed by your parents, other teachers, and our principal.  I have shared this with the principal, who does look and see what we are doing, and with a few of your teachers who are considering blogs.  Lets do our best work here.  The old saying, “If you don’t have something nice to say (or relevant), don’t say anything at all”, applies.

Lets continue to make this a place where we can share ideas freely.
